Tekashi 6ix9ine and Trippie Redd’s rocky history has been a topic of conversation in hip-hop for years, but now 6ix9ine is offering a deeper look at how their relationship unraveled and why things turned so bitter.

In a new interview with DJ Vlad, published on Saturday, September 20, the controversial New York rapper walked through the early days of his connection with Trippie. According to 6ix9ine, the two first met and quickly clicked musically, leading to their 2017 collaboration “Poles 1469.” At the time, the record put both artists in front of a wider audience and created buzz about them being a potential duo to watch. For a short while, the chemistry seemed promising, and their friendship extended beyond just the studio.

That momentum, however, didn’t last long. Only a few months later, a damaging video began circulating online. The clip allegedly showed 6ix9ine engaging in inappropriate behavior with a 13-year-old girl. The video instantly became a major scandal, and Trippie Redd didn’t hold back in his response. In a viral video of his own, Trippie publicly labeled 6ix9ine a pedophile, a move that made their falling out very public and nearly impossible to walk back.

Rather than stay silent, 6ix9ine doubled down and retaliated through his music. On his breakout single “Gummo,” the track that catapulted him into mainstream fame, he not only dissed Trippie but also revealed that he had taken the beat from him. This bold move added fuel to the fire and made their feud even more personal.

From that point on, what had started as a friendship built on creative collaboration quickly morphed into one of hip-hop’s most talked-about rivalries. The split marked a turning point in 6ix9ine’s rise, shaping his image as a controversial figure willing to embrace chaos, and it left little room for reconciliation with Trippie Redd.

“You know ‘Gummo’ is a Trippie Redd diss right?” 6ix9ine said about the Pi’erre Bourne-produced track. “I stole that s**t. That’s what I do.”

The song dropped a couple of months after 6ix9ine ordered his friends to beat up Trippie Redd. The infamous attack happened in front of the Gansevoort Hotel in New York in November 2017. 6ix9ine explained that he got a call about Trippie Redd being in the area and proceeded to follow him to his hotel. He said he and three others pulled up on Trippie, who was surrounded by 30 people, some with cameras.

The people who beat up Trippie, that was us,” 6ix9ine explained. “I was there. I was on the court. I pled guilty to it.”

“N***as rocked Trippie’s grills out his mouth, like his grills flew 10 feet in the air,” he continued. “That n***a went through the revolving doors. He came in spinning and left spinning. I’m serious.”

6ix9ine testified about the incident during his racketeering trial in 2019. At the time, he explained that Trippie’s manager invited him to a video shoot so that they could squash their beef, but 6ix9ine had other plans. Watch him tell the story in his own words below.
